At Paxport, we are currently looking for a talented DBA to ensure the smooth running of current Company database systems & to help design, develop and advise on future database systems. You will join the team at our Bristol, UK office.

Paxport is a fast growing travel solutions company based in Sweden and the UK. Paxport creates new revenue streams for airlines, tour operators and online travel agents as well as improving the passenger experience using modern digital technology.
The product portfolio includes PaxShop (merchandising platform), Pax2Pay (payment solutions), PaxCache (data caching), PaxManagement (leisure operations) and PaxFaB (flight & hotel aggregation).
Paxport was founded in 1994 and now has 100 employees. Paxport serves over 80 airlines and 250 travel resellers in Europe.

The role
You will maintain the existing databases, which are a mixture of PostgreSQL and MySQL/MariaDB, to ensure effective operation and limited downtime. In short, you will:

Respond to database problems and issues in a timely manner
Ensure database backups are up-to-date and the data is consistent
Optimize database performance, which may involve liaising with other departments at all levels within Paxport, to ensure the continued smooth running of the databases
Ensure database documentation is up to date
Actively participate and update central database system configuration
Maintain good knowledge of current trends in relevant technologies

We are looking for

Evidence of practicing secure database methods and implementation for all live systems
Experience with Postgres, Linux, Google Cloud Platform
An understanding of the security implications of GDPR and PCI, the serious nature of a data breach and therefore experience of implementing measures to protect systems from unauthorised access
Educated to degree level (preferably Maths or Computer Science) and at least five years experience working as a DBA
